Prof. Patrícia Izar will give the 19th International Primatology Lecture, titled “On Causes and Consequences of Tool Use: lessons learned from wild capuchin monkeys”. In this lecture, Dr. Izar will discuss groundbreaking discoveries from long-term research on tool use by bearded capuchin monkeys in northeastern Brazil.
About the speaker: Patrícia Izar is a Professor in the Experimental Psychology Department of University of São Paulo, Brazil. She is an ethologist and has experience in primate behavioral ecology, social behaviour, cognition, development and maternal care. She has been studying capuchin monkeys since the 1990s, and today, she coordinates long-term research in three field sites in Brazil. Having published more than a hundred papers and book chapters and advised more than 70 undergraduate and graduate students, Dr. Izar is one of the leading primatologists in Latin America. She is currently the President of the Brazilian Primatology Society and Vice-President for Education of the International Primatological Society.
