Grant writing & JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists

April 19th 2023

Securing research funding is a critical skill in academia that everyone can improve upon with practice and feedback from others. We will kick off a new academic year with a four-part series on grant writing and JSPS fellowship application, with the focus on the JSPS Research Fellowships for Young Scientists (日本学術振興会特別研究員プログラム).

In Part 1 of this series, we will discuss key elements of successful grant applications. In Part 2, you will develop an outline of your research proposal (real or hypothetical) and draft conceptual figures. In Parts 3 and 4, we will read draft research proposals by JSPS fellowship applicants this year and provide constructive feedback to one another.

In addition to prospective applicants of the JSPS fellowship program, we welcome participation of senior graduate students and other early career scientists who have their own experiences and tips to share.
