Join us on The PrimateCast as we cover the 25th Congress of the International Primatological Society.

The PrimateCast rolled out its mobile podcasting unit once again to cover the meetings of the International Primatological Society held between August 11-16, 2014. The theme of this year's congress, which was held at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, was 'meeting the challenges of conserving primate diversity'.

Unlike the case at the IPS congress two years ago in Cancun, Mexico, The PrimateCast was no longer green, having had a couple of years of run-time to hone its operators' skills. The main result of this new-found savvy is a burst of podcast activity reflecting our coverage of the conference. Having lost our summer intern, Sofi Bernstein, to field work, we enlisted the efforts of four volunteer graduate students from KUPRI: Yena Kim, Lucie Rigaill, Sayuri Takeshita and Cecile Sarabian. Together, we were able to interview no fewer than 20 (!) scientists and conservationists, and we're going to share those with you over the coming weeks.

The PrimateCast On Location at IPS 2014

In the first installment of this five-part podcast series, we introduce the series as well as three of the four student volunteers who were so instrumental in making this happen. After speaking with them about their experiences at the conference for the first half of the program, we hear from two of the three main organizers of the conference: Dr. Bert Covert and Dr. Steve Schapiro. Dr. Covert provides an entertaining account of how this congress came together, while Dr. Shapiro, as Treasurer and VP for membership of IPS, gives us a run down of the business side of things, as well as an anticipatory look into upcoming IPS congresses.
